Milan fashion awaits Chinese design boom

Chinese designers will drive catwalk trends more than deep-pocketed Asian buyers as China’s creativity becomes fashions’ next big thing, top fashion executives and designers said at Milan fashion week.
Chinese newly-rich fueled a record year for sales at luxury goods makers such as LVMH, with designers such as Ralph Lauren, Ermenegildo Zegna and Prada drawing inspiration from oriental prints and crystals to cater to Asian shoppers.
“The next big issue for fashion is not China’s economic boom but Chinese creativity,” Italian trend-setter designer and retailer Elio Fiorucci said on the sidelines of a Dolce and Gabbana show.
“We know little about Chinese sense of beauty. Chinese designers have got talent, they know all about us and they will be the next big surprise,” he said.
China is predicted to become the world’s biggest luxury market with sales of $14.6 billion in the next five years, according to the World Luxury Association.
However, economists say the Chinese economy’s booming growth rate is bound to ease, after capping a decade of expansion at an average annual rate of more than 10.5 percent.

Milan abuzz as Fashion Week kicks off

Glitterati, hawkish buyers and fashion-savvy writers flocked to the Italian capital on Wednesday for the start of Milan’s glamorous Fashion Week.
After London and New York, fashionistas flew in to see over 66 designers on show on 76 runways, including an exclusive few who will show off their collections on catwalks in front of the city’s towering Gothic cathedral.
Fashion giants Gucci, Alberta Ferretti and Roccobarocco will open the show on Wednesday, while Thursday’s catwalks will star Fendi, D&G and Prada.
Versace and Etro follow on Friday, with Bottega Veneta, Emporio Armani and Roberto Cavalli on Saturday.
Sunday and Monday see Dolce&Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo, Giorgio Armani and Just Cavalli on the catwalks.
Newcomers Carta e Costura, Erhan Coruh and N-U-D-E will be showing on Monday March 1, before buyers, journalists and the fashion set jet off to Paris Fashion Week, which will run until March 9.
The tiny cobbled streets around Milan’s main cathedral square buzzed in the lead up to the first showings, with last-minute attempts to bag an invitation to exclusive after-show parties hosted by Gucci, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.
Milan’s Camera Moda, which organises the week, has also arranged a host of cultural events, including visits to some of the city’s museums, exhibition openings and a Duran Duran concert.
Those unlucky enough not to have been invited to the shows can watch the models shimmy down the catwalks for many of the top designers on large screens set up near the cathedral.
Roccobarocco, Ermanno Scervino, Frankie Morello, C’N'C Costume National and Emilio Pucci are among those who will be live streaming their shows.

Sonam’s too fashion conscious

Rhea and Sonam Kapoor are sisters with similar interests in film and fashion and we hear that the two are coming together for a project in which they will work again.
Rhea was in charge of Sonam’s wardrobe in Aisha and now in Players and we also hear that they are planning to roll out another film like Aisha, at least that’s the buzz in the industry. The sisters follow fashion closely and also exchange ideas on fashion.
We hear that they also exchange their outfits to mix and match. We have known some serious sibling rivalries but it’s time for some sibling camaraderie in Tinseltown now.

Rule 1 - The Perfect Fit

        • Ill-fitting jeans do nothing for your style or your silhouette. Finding the right pair is not so much about fashion, but more about style. Kundan Jewelry is going to become Inn in 2011 beacuse of Gold raised rates

Kundan Jewelry is going to become Inn in 2011 beacuse of Gold raised ratesKundan jewellery is one of the most exquisite traditional Pakistani jewelry. The word Kundan itself means ‘Pure gold’ justifying the use of refined gold in designing this jewelry. Though its inception dates back to the Moghul Era, it is still in vogue among the Pakistani masses and even abroad.
The art of designing Kundan jewelry is calledKundankari, which involves a group of expert craftsmen involving chiterias, ghaarias, the goldsmith etc. Initially the jewelry piece is first shaped and then holes are cut for the precious stones to be engraved and then the pieces are enameled. When the stones are to be set, lac is inserted in the back, and is then visible in the front through the holes. The Kundan, i.e. the highly refined gold, is then used to cover the lac and the stone is pushed in it.
At times, more Kundan is layered on to finish the piece to strengthen joints and add to the beauty of the jewelry. This was the traditional way of designing them, until the western techniques of claw setting were introduced. The stones used in the jewelry vary from occasion to occasion and even the regions. The usual stones used in Kundan work include emerald, crystal rock, topaz, amethyst, jade, agate, garnet etc.

dressbarn

In 1962 Roslyn Jaffe, mother of three, opened the first dressbarn store in Stamford, Connecticut. At a time when women were wholly underrepresented in the workplace, Roslyn dared not only to work, but also to launch a new era in women's fashion. Designer label wool pencil skirts, sheer blouses, flares, furs, and leather coats were all the rage. And Roslyn offered her customers the very latest in women's designer styles.
A year later, the second dressbarn store was opened. Soon after the inception of the business, her husband Elliot joined Roslyn. Together, they built the business as well as a reputation for quality, style, value, and customer service.
Today, dressbarn remains customer centric, extremely sensitive and focused on needs and desires of women in the 21st century. While society and its priorities continually change, dressbarn is poised to respond to these evolutionary trends.
